It is hard to believe yet another year has advanced and we are once again looking forward to the excitement of Christmas and a well earned holiday. It has been a special year for me. The opportunity to lead the school for two terms has been a highlight and a privilege. It has provided me with the opportunity to view the school from a very different perspective. The board, staff, Home and School Association and community work together so effectively to ensure the very best outcomes for our students. This has been evidenced by the school’s ability to maintain momentum even when the top seat has, in theory, been vacated. My personal thanks to the many who have contributed their time and support to make this school the special one it is. Firstly our parent community. Your ongoing assistance in so many ways has enabled us to provide support, transport and extra curricula activities for students. We are very grateful for the time you have given either at school or at home helping with school requests. We are extremely lucky to have a group of staff who are excellent practitioners, constantly looking for ways to do things differently or better. They are motivated to continue with professional development and keen, always, to find out and facilitate change around the needs of our learners. The senior management team: Sarah Brown, Nicki Stempa, Anne Smith and Jude Phillips. You have provided wonderful assistance throughout the year to your staff and to me. Thank you support staff. Always so willing to undertake a wide range of tasks to ensure the smooth running of the school: Hue Ng, Navy Ny, Lorraine Hawkins, Deborah Rings, Jill Blackmore, Wendy van der Molen, Mei Chen, Marie Warrington, Veronika Kozera, Marion Kerr, Alison Downie and caretaker Ken Hyden. Adrienne Hilton and Charmaine Weir with their varied range of responsibilities. It is hard to imagine the school with out their extensive knowledge about all things to do with the day to day management of the school. I extend best wishes to everyone and hope you all have a wonderful festive season and holiday. Return to school in 2010 safe and well. Regards, Di Patchett Acting Principal |

Term Finish Date School will finish for the children at 2.00pm on Thursday 17th December. The 2010 school year starts for the children on Wednesday 3rd February at 9.00am. Term Dates 2010:
Staffing for 2010 As happens at the end of the school year there are changes to staffing for various reasons. Miss Stacey Peacock is travelling overseas and Ms Ingrid Hyde has won a permanent position at a school nearer to home. Both have been part of our M Block staff this year. Mrs Markelle Archer, who had taken a year’s leave following the birth of her daughter has taken up another opportunity and will not be returning in 2010. Ms Tricia Will who has undertaken part time work for us over these past few years is also moving onto another school. Both Markelle and Tricia have had long associations with Churton Park School. Paula Asiata, also on maternity leave for the year, has tended her resignation, as she too, wishes to work in an area nearer to her home. Ms Marion Kerr, support staff worker for the past three terms, is returning to Ireland after an extended working holiday in New Zealand. Miss Kelly Cowan, presently working in J Block, will take up a position in M Block alongside our newly appointed teacher Mr Hayden Thompson. Mrs Charmaine McGowan will continue to teach in Room 3 until Shelly Wilson, also on maternity leave, returns at the end of term 1. We will of course have our new Principal, Mrs Anne Lye, with us from the start of Term 1. Principal – Mrs Anne Lye Deputy Principal – Mrs Di Patchett Assistant Principal – Mrs Jude Phillips New Entrant block – Mrs Anne Smith (Senior Teacher), Mrs Roslyn Hobbs, Miss Brigid Wylie and Mrs Suzie Symons-Wilkinson. J Block – Mrs Jude Phillips (Assistant Principal), Ms Gaylene Nankivell, Mrs Charmaine McGowan (Term 1), Mrs Lorraine Tidey. M Block – Miss Nicki Stempa (Senior Teacher), Mr Steve Trotter, Ms Cheryl Dimond, Mr Hayden Thompson, Miss Kelly Cowan, Mrs Tania Horton. S Block – Mrs Sarah Brown (Senior Teacher), Mr David Martin, Miss Lisa Walker, Miss Adele Montgomery, Mrs Maree Goodall, Mr Eugene Becconsall. The Home and School Association A huge thank you to Anita McGonigle and her team on the Home and School Association committee for the work they have given to school fundraising and social activities. The school would not be able to deliver what we do without this support. Thank you. Before and After School Care The waiting lists are open and those families with places for 2010 are being notified. An increase in fees has had to be made to cover increasing overhead costs. Pedestrian Crossing Supervision Churton Park School is extremely lucky as we have parents supervising both our school crossings every afternoon. This is such a support for teachers who would find it very difficult to leave classrooms and be on duty by 3.00pm. A huge thanks to: Bev Gardiner, Raewyn Henderson, Sharon Baker, Rachel Middleton, Marina Fontein, Sharon Jepson, Jane Gaudie, Fiona Plim, Candice Burgess and Cory Gawe. School Donations At the November meeting of the Board of Trustees time was spent discussing the school budget for 2010. To enable the school to deliver the quality of education desired it has necessitated an increase in School Donations next year. These will be – 1 child $190, 2 children $315, 3 or more children $440. Looking After our School in the Holidays It is always a pleasure to see the school grounds being used by families and children throughout the summer holidays but could we please ask that users respect the rules regarding the use of skateboards, cycling around corners, removing seating, caring about gardens, taking note of the procedure if a ball is kicked over the fence and being safe on the adventure play ground? If damage is noticed then please ring the school phone number and leave a message, with a contact if appropriate or if more serious ring the police. A reminder that skateboards are not allowed in school grounds. Choir Concert An invitation is extended to everyone to attend a performance by the school choir and dance group on Monday the 14th at 7.00pm in the school hall. Macarthy Trust The school acknowledges the generosity of the Macarthy Trust for their recent donation of $4000.00 for library purchases. |

About a year ago I started to get interested in shaving my hair off for cancer patients. My parents got really annoyed because I kept blabbering about it so my Dad looked on all the websites he could think of to do with cancer patients in need. I chose child cancer because since I am a child I thought it would be good to help other children as well. The event was held on Thursday 3rd December. As far as I know I’ve raised $2001.50. This amount of money was way past my goal (which was $500) and my parents ended up shaving their hair too because I got to a certain amount of money. I’d like to thank all of the teachers, friends and family who donated money to go towards the Child Cancer Foundation – Charlotte Chivers |
