Principal’s Corner
It is hard to believe that Term 2 is nearly over and after all the cold and wet weather we have been having, I think everybody is looking forward to the break.
Yesterday morning I was greeted at school by a 5 year old student who, with a beaming smile, said, “I hope you are very excited about the New Entrant assembly today.” Of course I replied that I was and it was very obvious from his face that he was too. It is so wonderful to see that kind of enthusiasm and delight about sharing learning.
Attending the New Entrant assembly, it was obvious to see that excitement in all the children. Their faces lit up as they spied someone who was there to watch them. You could see the furtive wave from the waist (and, of course, the not so furtive wave), their eyes watching you to see if you were watching them in their moment of glory and you could feel their sense of pride.
This afternoon M Block shared their assembly, J Block has one planned for week 3 next term and S Block will be presenting their production (dates at the back of this newsletter). It really doesn’t matter what age your child is – although the outward signs might not be so explicit because it’s not “cool” – they really do value your interest and participation in their learning; and so do we! Thank you for all the support you have offered to us during this term.
Over the weekend Mark and I moved into our new home – ahead of schedule, which everyone tells us never happens when you are building – and it is so wonderful to be settled. While you can guess that we will be spending quite a bit of the holiday break unpacking the many boxes, we both finally feel we are home and it’s a good feeling.

Brigid has been at Churton Park School for the last three years and we are so thankful for all she has contributed during that time. She has been warm and welcoming to students and families in the New Entrant block, so patient and positive with each of the little learners in her class and supportive of all school wide activities. We will miss you Brigid but wish you all the best for your new adventure as you and Nick move to Sydney. |
Just a reminder that school finishes at 3pm this Friday.
ALL WHITE FEVER HIT CHURTON PARK LAST FRIDAY MORNING
(Thank you Mr Trotter for organising this for us.)

Last Friday morning the senior students came along to school, dressed in white, to watch the last pool game at the FIFA World Cup with New Zealand participating. What a great few weeks we shared with them – and how proud we are of their achievements. |

THIS FRIDAY WE ARE CELEBRATING RED SOCKS DAY…
(Thank you to Mrs Patchett for organising this for us.)
This Friday, 2nd July students are encouraged to wear red socks, or something red, to recognise and celebrate Leadership Day. This is in recognition of Sir Peter Blake and his leadership model legacy. We will recognize students who have shown leadership in our school over this term through classroom discussion, awards and Principal’s Awards at our final assembly of the term.
Aren’t our Home and School Association wonderful?
This week Anita McGonigle brought a cheque into the school office for $5000, the result of the sponsporship fundraiser for the Cross Country earlier this term. This money will go towards purchasing blinds for M block so the students can see the data projector on those sunny afternoons ( a distant memory I know).
Thank you also to all those parents who supported the pizza fundraiser and to Joanna Kempkers for the organization - $600 was raised – and with the holidays coming up, perfect for a warm lunch on a wet day.
Room 3 Farm Visit
As part of our inquiry on
“How do we care for living things?”
We went on a trip to Tina’s farm and Jill’s Aviary.

The kune kune pig is fat and spotty. He has a long body. His tusks were sticking out. We went to see the hens and the rooster. They were excited as they had just laid an egg.

I liked the farm. We saw the alpacas and the pig. We got to feed the alpacas, they were so hungry. We looked at the hens but I liked the rooster. We went to see the birds at Jill’s house. I liked the yellow budgies. They sing lovely songs. By Roya |

I went to the farm and we fed the alpacas lots of hay. Two of the mummies had babies in their tummies. I liked the dog Jamie. Jamie licked me on the jacket. They had long and pretty eyelashes. We went to Jill’s aviary. I saw budgies and canaries. It was cool to be at Jill’s aviary. By Wen-Ting |

The alpacas ate the hay. They have long necks. They are shy. The alpacas were my favorite animal. I like farms. By Ryan |

New Entrant Assembly
|
Everyone attending yesterday just had to be impressed with the enthusiasm, the talent, the delight of the New Entrant children as they shared their learning from Term 2. The focus was on their inquiry learning about Living Things and we were entertained by lions, rabbits, plants who were able to move, sing and recite. Thank you everyone for your hard work. |

Miniball Miniball has now finished for term 2. Churton Park School had four teams playing at Nairnville Recreation Centre. We had lots of fun playing miniball against people we know from other schools. We have learnt lots about the rules of miniball, how to shoot goals and how to play fairly. Thank you to all our coaches and parent helpers. We are excited that we can play again next term. By Janelle Walker & Beck Cattermole (Room 19) |

Camera, lights, action…
Please put these dates in your diary for the S Block production next term.
Evening Performances: Monday 9th August, Tuesday 10th August, Thursday 12th August.
Matinee Performance: Wednesday 11th August.
Students and staff are working very hard to put together the show, so you won’t want to miss it!
ROAD PATROL
The school would like to express our sincere thanks to Holly’s mum for her volunteer service as a road patrol mum last year and over the past two terms. If anyone is keen to support us on Monday at Halswater Drive please ring the office. Time required 2.55 – 3.15 once a week.
Traffic reminder – if only one sign is out, because the other is being carried across the crossing to finish patrol duty for the day, all traffic must stop. Drivers in Halswater Drive are continuing to drive through the crossing, thinking the sign is only applicable to one side of the road. This is an offence and you may be ticketed.
Newlands Intermediate Information evening
Newlands Intermediate have asked us to advise you that there will be an information evening on the 26th August at 7.00pm. For those students who enroll, there will be an orientation morning on the 12th November. Newlands Intermediate will supply a bus to pick up and drop off students from our school. School starts for 2011 on February 2nd.
Have a great break everyone, looking forward to seeing you back in Term 3.

Principal
