Tabloid Sports Day
This year J Block will hold a Tabloid sports event. Each child in the Bock will be in a mixed class team and will participate in a variety of games. The emphasis will be on participation and contributing to a team and consideration for team mates. Points will be allocated for these aspects as well as winning teams. We invite you to come and cheer for the teams on Tuesday 24 November at 9 am on the school field. Could the children please wear suitable clothing and footwear, and lots of sunscreen. They will be wearing their school sunhats. You are welcome to stay on and have morning tea with your child. We will aim to finish the event at 10.45 ish.
Kind regards Jude Phillips Gaylene Nankivell Kelly Cowan Lorraine Tidey |
Life Education – Food for Energy Our new Inquiry topic is about to begin and focuses around a visit from Harold the Giraffe in the Life Education caravan. Harold is an animated personality who will help our children discover the answers to questions they will be posing relating to Food and Energy for our bodies. Tied in with this is the Tabloid sports and how we will fuel our bodies for energy for this event. We also plan to have a picnic lunch on the field on Friday 27 November to culminate this unit. Your child will bring home a menu they have designed to help prepare for the picnic and show what they have learnt. |
|
Final Assembly We would like to invite you to our final Assembly on Tuesday 15 December at 11am. This will be a folk dance assembly to show you what our children have learnt and a chance for you to join them in a dance. Following the Assembly we will hold our annual Christmas lunch. This will be banquet style inside J Block and the children will be designing a Christmas hat to wear. We would be very grateful if you could provide a plate of food to share on this day. We’ll send a note home closer to the day to address details. |

Last term… At the end of Term 3 the children of J Block hosted an afternoon tea for Grandparents and Special friends. A wonderful afternoon was enjoyed by all and the children had ample opportunity to practice the things they had been learning during the term, and show off their skills and talents to their visitors.
|
Our thanks…
We would like to acknowledge and thank the parents who helped the J Block children host a very successful Grandparents Day at the end of last term. A very big thank you also to our parents for providing the afternoon tea. |

3-Way Conferencing 3 and 5 August This term we are conducting 3 way conferences as a means for reporting to parents about their children’s progress. We are looking forward to discussing with you your child’s reflections of goals set earlier in the year and their up-to-date goals in Numeracy, Literacy and a Key Competency. Your child needs to be present at these interviews and his or her learning will be discussed in language appropriate to their comprehension. Through this process they will gain a greater understanding that they have a part to play in their learning and that they need to take responsibility for achieving learning goals. Please select your interview time on the website. Information about this was included in the school newsletter. School closes at 2pm on these days. |
Our thanks…

Our Value this Term is: Obedience Whilst considered an old-fashioned value by many, J Block children have discussed the importance of doing as you are asked by people in “rightful authority” ie: the people who care about you and are looking after you. You will see some homework tasks relating to this value. |
Art shirts: Could the children in Rooms 1 and 3 please bring a named old shirt with the sleeves cut off a little, or a T-shirt to school to use as an art shirt. Room 3 would love any donations of newspapers. Homework: This term J Block teachers have modified the homework given to each class in an effort to make homework more meaningful, holistic in content, and reflect our classroom programmes. We have planned some activities as a team and some activities pertain to specific classes. We would welcome your comments on the new format, which enables children to choose from a range of tasks and complete some “must-do” activities. Some activities are designed to help children’s learning in another context ie: board games reinforce basic addition facts, cooking reinforces measurement skills. Some activities are designed around thinking, key competencies or our value for the term. We believe homework for 6 and 7 year olds should be short, fun, and non-stressful for families with busy home lives. We believe one of the most important aspects of homework is that children begin to manage their own time and focus on a task independently for a short, sustained period of time. If your child is not able to complete weekly homework, or is having difficulty with tasks, please see your child’s teacher. |

Art Splash… Artwork from Churton Park School is on display at the Michael Fowler centre from 10 – 14 August. Thanks to Nicki Stempa from M Block for organising our display.
