RATIONALE: To provide Churton Park students (Year 4-6) the opportunity to play competitive Saturday morning netball.
PURPOSE:
- To introduce and extend the skills of netball.
- To select Year 4-6 teams, giving opportunities to boys and girls who wish to play netball.
- To provide uniforms and equipment to all teams.
- To provide support in financial matters.
GUIDELINES:
- The Principal will appoint a teacher to oversee the netball activities of the school. The appointed teacher may enlist the assistance of a parent (hereby known as the parent coordinator) to assist with the management of netball activities.
- Appointed teacher to call a meeting in November to:
- Appoint a representative to attend the Northern Zone AGM
- Appoint a parent coordinator
- Seek interest from parents who wish to coach or manage a team
3. Appointed teacher and parent coordinator to discuss in February with parents:
- Timeframes for notices, trials and registration of teams
- Set and confirm fees
- View notice to be sent to parents containing information about Netball, a registration form, payment details and seek interest from parents for coaching and managing teams, umpiring responsibilities, uniform issuing and fundraising.
4. Parent coordinator to collate registrations and organize trial teams.
5. Trials held by appointed teacher.
6. Teams, coaches and managers selected by teacher. Parent coordinator given list of teams.
7. Appointed teacher/parent coordinator to hand out coaching manuals and discuss coaching courses available.
8. Parent coordinator to be in charge of receiving and distributing weekly draw.
9. Parent coordinator to send letter home outlining details of team, practice times and a permission slip. Teacher to collect these along with fees.
10. Parent coordinator distributes uniforms, bibs, balls and player of the day trophy. (Uniform issue to be recorded).
11. Parent coordinator oversees organization of fundraising BBQ at Newlands College on allocated day. Proceeds given to school for banking.
12. September parent coordinator requests feedback from parents about the season and reports to teacher/Principal.
13. Parent coordinator provides article for school magazine.
14. Coaches and managers are responsible for all equipment given to them by the school. All equipment is to be returned to school at the end of the netball season.
15. End of season functions are to be arranged by coaches and managers. Liaison between all teams is important to ensure each team celebrates the end of the season in an appropriate way.
SELF REVIEW:
- This policy will be reviewed in accordance with the Board’s triennial programme of self review.
- The board will consult with staff and relevant members of the school community on the effectiveness of the policy guidelines.
- The reviewed policy will be made available to members of the school community once ratified by the board.
