Welcome to the 2010 school year and a special welcome to families new to the school. We seem to have had a good start to the school year with plenty of sunny weather which was missing in the holidays (if you were in Wellington).
Strategic plan
Last year we commenced strategic planning to take the school forward into the future. This was put on hold while we worked to find a new principal and it’s been great to welcome Anne Lye on board as our Principal. She is gradually getting to know her way around and if you haven’t yet had chance to meet up with her at either the parent information evening or the family fun night, please feel free to introduce yourself.
The results of the questionnaire we sent out last year will be taken into account as we finally complete the strategic planning work in Term 2. In the meantime, a number of suggestions are already being implemented, including improvements to home/school communications and working on a new ICT strategy.
Board elections
You may have seen information about school Board of Trustees elections soon to take place. All schools need to have a Board of Trustees to set the strategic direction of the school and monitor progress against this. This is an important and rewarding role to play in the life of our school. As we run a split timing for our board elections, there are 3 parent representative roles being vacated. Key skills that would particularly benefit the school are in areas such as IT, human resources, property and finance.
All parents of children currently at the school are eligible to vote and to nominate people for election (who do not have to be school parents) and, of course, vote. If you yourself have or know someone who has the right sort of skills, I encourage you to seriously consider this as a way to contribute to and influence the future of our school.
If you want to know more, come along to the next board meeting on Monday 22 March at 7.30pm in the staff room.
